Hi, I’m Brooke!

I’m a writer, Jesus-follower, college student, & aspiring musician sharing my journey through my twenties. I love to travel, I drink way too much coffee, and I believe that a little lip gloss can solve a lot of problems. My hope for Y&J is that it will encourage other young women in their relationships with God and inspire them to live lives that are ambitious, creative, and joyful.

Best,

Brooke

On Instagram...

Alright friends, for Lent I’m giving up Instagram. It’s become an idol in my life lately and I really need these next 43 days to just fix my eyes on Jesus, not on what other people are posting. So, without further ado, I’ll see all you lovely people in about 6 weeks! Wish me luck!
Something powerful to keep you going after the long weekend. ⠀ .⠀ Lately I’ve felt like I’ve been trying to hide the fact that I’m Christian because I don’t want people to label me or write me off. What I’ve been forgetting is that I’m never going to be able to reach people for Jesus if they don’t even know that I have a relationship with Him. ⠀ .⠀ But honestly, it’s really really hard to be comfortable with being different. I’ve always been such a wallflower that the second I stand out, I freak out. But God has called me stand out. He’s called me to show up. He’s called me to speak up. ⠀ .⠀ So, despite my fears and failures, here’s to INFLUENCING the energy in the room.
Hey guys, this is me!⠀ .⠀ This photo is from when I was still living in Paris. I stumbled across it in my camera roll and I felt ALLLLL the feels. I miss Paris so much because it’s Paris and it’s amazing but also that was such an important season of growth and adventure and I’m just NOSTALGIC, MAN. ⠀ .⠀ Anyway, if you’re new around here I just wanted to say welcome and hope you’ll stick around to follow my journey with Y&J. ⠀ .⠀ Talk to you soon! ⠀ Xoxo, Brooke
Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day! Aaaaaannnddd I’m sure some of us are really NOT excited about it. Don’t worry, I get where you’re coming from — I am VERY SINGLE. But I don’t believe that not having a significant other means that I should have to sit around and be sad and lonely tomorrow. So, I decided to February 14 into my own hands. . Up on the blog now is a guide to having the best single Valentine’s Day EVER. These ideas for how to have a great V-Day without a significant other are actually making me EXCITED to be single. . Link in bio! Go go go!
PV ALERT: Friends, Pura Vida just released an Anxiety Disorder Awareness Pack. As someone who has struggled with OCD and social anxiety my whole life, that means SO MUCH to me. Seeing my struggles highlighted in mainstream culture in such a powerful way is a breathe of fresh air. Mental health is a struggle that just isn’t talked about enough, but Pura Vida felt led to start that conversation and support this cause with these bracelets, and I’m seriously so thankful. I can’t wait to rep these. Join me?? . Don’t forget to use “brookepland20” when you shop!
When you look at the world through the lens of the Creator, everything is so much more incredible. Sunsets are hand-painted and the constant movement of the ocean is a work of art. When we live our lives with an awareness of the grace we’ve been given, we get to experience things with fresh eyes, with new wonder. . Just some thoughts I’m having on this Monday night. #mondaymusings
Now that’s a view. . Now that I live by the ocean, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to live anywhere else. Nothing else comes close!

Friends! I have news! I just published a new post on Y&J, and it introduces something new going on in my life! . I’m starting a Bible Study in my sorority house and I’m documenting the whole project on the blog in hopes that anyone else out there who wants to do the same can learn from the steps I’m taking and the mistakes I’m making. . So the first post in the series is up now, I’d love for you to check it out!!
Only Jesus can do that. . Today, I’m anxious about the preparation I must do in order to get a Bible study up and running in my sorority house. But last night at my weekly youth group meeting, I realized that the only way I can possibly find the strength to do it all is to rely on Jesus for it. . I’m anxious because I’ve been relying on my own strength, which leaves me feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. . But, spending time with God renews my heart so that I can come back to the tasks assigned to me and run the race before me. . Only Jesus can do that. . Happy Friday, friends! . Never gets old. . I think I’m supposed to live in SB for the rest of my life. . It’s pretty much my soul city. I don’t know if “soul city” is even a term, but I think it should be! . ALSO: I have a couple new posts up on the blog! (Finally!) One is about Paris and one is about turning 20! So go check em out, you know what to do! #linkinbio
Favorite place ✨ . This is probably where I find the most peace. Curled up in my room with a guitar. I’ve found that I connect with God best through music, so I treasure those moments of His presence when I worship Him. . Is anyone else a music-oriented person??🙋🏼‍♀️
Reminiscing on this weekend when I was brunchin’ in the sunshine, not schlumping my way to class through the rain... . But ya know, ya win some and ya lose some. Happy Monday, folks 🤷🏼‍♀️
This really made me think! And reflecting on where I was a years ago made me so thankful that God has been with me every step of the way. . At the beginning of 2018, I was one quarter into my freshman year of college, and honestly, I didn’t really like it. I hadn’t made any super close friends yet, so I was feeling lonely and homesick and like I just wasn’t where I wanted to be. I missed my church community from back home and just didn’t believe that a new one here could be as good. . But in the past year, I’ve made some of the greatest friends I’ve ever had, found an incredible church community which has breathed so much life into my experience at school, spent the summer serving the youth at my church back home, moved to PARIS, and travelled Europe for four months. . Seriously, who knew that one year could bring so much growth? I can’t even believe it. . For the past few years, when the end of December has rolled around, I’ve given that previous year a word that sort of sums up everything God did in me and my life throughout the year. 2018’s word was “provision.” . What word would you use to describe what God did in your life in 2018? I wanna hear!!
Honey I’m hoooooome . LOVE living here. West coast is the best coast!
